Shropshire Brass is getting ready for a rather special musical journey as we join the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway for a commemorative event on Sunday 1st November 2026.
Combining the nostalgic sounds of traditional brass music with the sights, sounds and smells of a working steam railway, the afternoon promises a wonderful step back in time.
Our musicians will be swapping the usual concert setting for something a little different, providing a musical accompaniment to this special occasion.
All Aboard for an Afternoon of Music!
The afternoon’s programme will see Shropshire Brass performing at several locations along the railway:
1.00pm – Llanfair Caereinion Station
We’ll begin with a 30-minute performance featuring traditional brass music alongside a selection of familiar favourites.
Approximately 2.50pm – Welshpool Station
We’ll be back in action at Welshpool, entertaining visitors with a few more tunes.
Castle Caereinion – A Moment in History
One of the highlights of the day will be a stop at Castle Caereinion on the return journey, where we’ll help recreate a photograph originally taken in 1956.
It’s a lovely opportunity to bring a little piece of railway history back to life, 70 years later!
Steam, Brass and a Touch of Nostalgia
There’s something rather special about the sound of a brass ensemble alongside a traditional steam locomotive. Both are part of Britain’s rich heritage, and we’re delighted to be bringing them together for this occasion.
Of course, while the locomotive runs on coal, our musicians are more likely to be powered by tea and biscuits!
Come Along and Join Us!
Whether you’re a railway enthusiast, a brass music lover or simply looking for something a little different to enjoy, we’d love to see you.
Join Shropshire Brass on Sunday 1st November for an afternoon of music, steam and nostalgia on the beautiful Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway.
We look forward to seeing you there!
