Shropshire Brass Ensemble proudly began its Normandy tour today, taking part in commemorations marking the anniversary of D-Day alongside veterans, military personnel, dignitaries, and visitors from across the world.
The ensemble’s first day in Normandy included attending ceremonies at the iconic Pegasus Bridge, one of the most important locations in the story of the Allied landings of 6 June 1944. Surrounded by wreaths, memorials, and reflections of remembrance, members of the ensemble were honoured to represent Shropshire and the UK through music and tribute.
Performing in such historic surroundings was both a privilege and a deeply moving experience for the group. Music has always played an important role in remembrance, and the ensemble was proud to help commemorate the courage, sacrifice, and legacy of those who took part in the liberation of Europe.
The visit to Pegasus Bridge provided a powerful reminder of the events of D-Day and the importance of ensuring future generations continue to remember the sacrifices made during the Second World War.
This marks the beginning of a special and memorable week for Shropshire Brass Ensemble, with further performances, ceremonies, and commemorative events planned across Normandy in the coming days.
Lest We Forget.
