The Shropshire Brass Ensemble has completed its memorable Normandy Tour with a final performance at the impressive Le Grand Bunker Museum in Ouistreham.
The museum, which played an important role during the Second World War and now stands as one of Normandy’s most fascinating military museums, provided a unique and historic setting for the ensemble’s last concert of the tour. Performing to an enthusiastic audience surrounded by so much history was a fitting way to bring an unforgettable week to a close.
Over the past six days, the ensemble has been privileged to perform at a number of commemorative events, ceremonies and concerts across Normandy, helping to mark the anniversary of D-Day through music and remembrance. From memorial services and official ceremonies to public concerts on beaches, promenades and village squares, every performance has been met with warmth, appreciation and support.
The tour has allowed the band not only to share its music but also to meet people from around the world, forge new friendships and experience the incredible hospitality of the Normandy communities. Each venue and event has offered its own special memories, creating a tour that will stay with the musicians for many years to come.
Representing Shropshire on such an important international stage has been a tremendous honour for the ensemble. The band would like to thank all the organisers, hosts, volunteers and audiences who have welcomed them throughout the week and helped make the tour such a success.
As the final notes rang out around Le Grand Bunker, there was a real sense of pride in everything that had been achieved. The tour has been a celebration of music, friendship, remembrance and international goodwill, values that lie at the heart of Shropshire Brass Ensemble.
The ensemble would also like to thank Musical Director Steve Pritchard-Jones for his leadership throughout the tour, as well as all the musicians whose dedication and enthusiasm helped make the trip such a success.
Normandy, thank you for your warm welcome, your rich history and your lasting memories. We leave inspired, grateful and proud to have been part of such a special occasion.
Until next time.
🎺 🇬🇧 🇫🇷 Au revoir, Normandie – et à bientôt!
